For many dogs, once the main issue has been identified a plan of action can be put together to ensure grooming is stress free or reduced in the future. This sometimes requires a veterinary assessment if I am concerned the issues are driven by pain due to illness or injury. However for some it is kinder to teach the owners how to manage their dogs grooming at home with my Individual Dog Grooming Masterclass.

I spend some time with your dog with the owner present and not present to enable me to ascertain whether it is separation anxiety before dealing with it as a grooming issue. I will try to understand if it is a particular area on the body and might ask the owner questions regarding the dogs health and past injuries or frightening experiences.

Once I have established what I believe the main issue to be I work with the owners to produce a grooming routine that the owner can safely do themselves at home. I will teach the owners how to groom their dog, the best equipment to use and the best distraction or positive rewards to use. This will be printed out for the owner to follow at home.

Often a dog will need to be positively muzzle trained before a consultation to allow for safe initial handling. This would be fully discussed beforehand with advice given on how to achieve a positive association

For some dogs the issue is bigger than just the grooming with the dog experiencing generalised anxiety which would be discussed separately.

 Prices will vary depending on the severity of the case and number of sessions required with the owner.

£300 - 1 hour assessment by myself followed by 3 one hour sessions with the owner present to advise the owner how to make grooming a more positive experience (for both) and lessons on how to safely groom their dog. These sessions van be broken down into half hour sessions if better suited to the dogs needs and tolerance levels. The groom itself can be to breed specifications or a more practice version to suit your lifestyle. Sometimes it is kinder to groom dogs according to their lifestyle and tolerance levels rather than adhere to breed specifications but this will be advised. A written up personalised set of notes on everything learned and a list of advised equipment and where to purchase. If preferred I can buy in the equipment for the total cost of the equipment. Follow up lessons are available at the standard anxious dog cost of £40 p/h but I am always at the end of the phone for follow up advice and support.
